Why do 'creationists' continue to argue the minutia of?

I believe more in evolution even though there are gaps in the theory that hasn't been filled in yet. We share our genetics with a lot of animals and even plants. I think they like to get bogged down in the minutia so they can ignore the larger things. It's like straining out the gnat and gulping down the whole camel.
